Ron Philo Jr, 3rd Generation Golf Professional of PGA with over 20 years of experience, at present the Director of Instruction at Stowe Country Club (Vermont) confirmed the vital role of imagination for a successful putt through the drill below.

According to Ron, when putting, we need to “observe” the perfect line that the ball follows to the hole.

First of all, imagine the ball at the position just prior to falling into the hole. Next, imagine the ball at about 6 inches before the last one, and then 1 foot, 1,5 foot…until it gets to the spot from which they are practicing.

Following step is to “observe” the balls on the imaginary line, evaluate the strength to putt the ball go in this line. Then, put a framework at the set-up point for the putt, facing the imaginary line of rolling.

Now, it’s time to practice and practice. At first, beginner or amateur golfers will feel it hard to keep the ball in that line, or the putt is not strong/ soft enough to make it to the hole. A little tip for you is to put a tee or a coin next to the imaginary line and putt, making the ball pass the tee/coin as close as possible. This means the real line and the imaginary one overlap each other. The result will be improved considerably!
