[NEWS] The Usga And R&A Want To Remain The Art Of Green-Reading

According to these Golf’s governing bodies, the materials assisting the green-reading for golfers are rapidly developing with more and more details attached. A joint statement has been released this Monday, saying “The R&A and the USGA believe that a player’s ability to read greens is an essential part of the skill of putting”.

In addition, “Rule 14-3 limits the use of equipment and devices that might assist a player in their play, based on the principle that golf is a challenging game in which success should depend on the judgment, skills and abilities of the player.” These bodies hope to find solutions to protect this vital part of the sport of golf in a few months coming, and in March, the USGA and the R&A will unveil proposed rules changes for 2019.

Ian Poulter, an English professional golfer who has been ranked #5 in the world ranking, has also shown his accord with the restriction of supporting equipment in tours, specifically the green-reading books with detailed maps to navigate tricky landscapes. He believes that these materials should be banned in tours because it demolish the art of putting. “If you can’t read a greens, that’s your fault” – he said.
